I’ve had a stomach flu since Monday afternoon now; and honestly, I’m fresh out of ways to pretend that I’m not ill.
The worst part, of course, is using the sick days I’ve accumulated at work for such a thing as actually being sick.
What kind of crap is that?
Generally speaking, I prefer to hang on to my sick days over the course of the year, saving them up for a lovely three-day stint some time in February or March or so – you know, just about the time everyone in my part of the world starts making collages of pictures clipped from travel magazines, grinning, sun-burnt wankers frolicking in tropical climes…
And now I’ve blown it.
Wait – would it be feasible that I be “sick” – as opposed to sick – again in March?
A question for minds clearer than mine.

Wasn't it George Carlin who did a routine about calling in well. You could pull it off, bright girl like you!
LOL, oh I love that Goddess!! Calling in well...that's definitely you, Pearl...if anyone can pull it off honey, you can!
Hope you are better soon! I remember once calling in sick while sitting on the toilet, holding a barf bucket on my lap....and the boss says: "Are you SURE you can't make it in..at least for a few hours later this afternoon?".....only to her immediately hearing the sounds of me, being sick (again!)... (I will spare you the details)......
I completely agree....call in WELL in March....
Oh, how I loved George Carlin...
I called in ugly once. 19 tiny cold sores on my mouth (SO attractive!) when I was 20. The horror! I called in ugly. Of course, I had to go in the next day anyway, where at least I could prove to all that I was, indeed, ugly...
Pearl
I'm not buyin' the ugly thing, Pearl. You? Never honey...

Oh, that is terrible to have to use your sick days for actual sickness. I do feel for you, the flu is the worst. Blehh.
Hugs,CC
Mental health is just as important as physical health-be sick in the head in March!
Just say this first sickness has left you weakened and more susceptible to sickness therefore more sick periods are needed... in fact you need a huge bout of sick leave to fully recover: the whole of March should cover it.
When my kids were in highschool I allowed them mental health days. These mom pre-approveded 'sick' days kept them from skipping school.
I think our jobs should be the same...But I tried it once and the conversation was like this: I phoned the boss and said, "You know..I just don't feel like working today. Yes, I know there in no I in 'TEAM', (dramatic pause) but if you jumble the letters a bit it does have the word 'ME' in it doesn't it?...What's that? You don't think I'm amusing...Yes...I'll work late...and Saturdays too. Thank you sir...
You can do it Pearl - definitley call in well. They would never suspect a thing..
it seems to be that everyone has some sort of stomach ailment. i think its something to do with tainted holiday candy...
Isn't there a way you can talk with HR to come up with a sick day for your actual and legitimate sick days, and another sick day when you're just chilling and not count against your sick days?
I mean - we all know that when you take a sick day, especially on Friday that you're not really sick. Or when it's especially sunny, you take a "Sunday".
Hope you feel better, Danish actually helps with stomach ailments, you can catch a whole lot on the Danish at my blog.
try calling in fat and bloated.
the silence on the other end of the line is totally worth it.
It's even worse than being sick on a public holiday!
Well, I'm not in very good voice at the moment but still singing. If we call in sick, we have to pay for a replacement. Works wonders for your well-being, money!
