Back in September, I sent a card to my sister – a woman with whom I exchange coupons for such things as “Beano” and various types of denture adhesives for amusement purposes only – with the following limerick inside:
There once was a girl named Karen
Who, when laughing, wet the pants she was wearin’
But a pair of Depend
Put that all to an end
And you can hardly tell she’s wearing them, they’re so smooth and comfy.
Now who wouldn’t want to receive a coupon for one U.S. dollar off the price of a pack of disposable adult diapers?
She was, of course, thrilled.
I received a card from her in the mail last week.
This is the cover. That’s her middle son, Liam, who has passed out in the backseat of the car after a long drive.
This is the interior. The hand of the li’l debbil squeezing Liam’s cheeks belongs to Garrett, Liam’s little brother/Karen’s youngest son.
Here is the content:
Pearl,
Careful… Little sisters, like little brothers, take revenge while you sleep!
Hope you enjoy the poem. I know it needs a little work on the ending, but it’s a work in progress.
OH and THANKS for the coupon! Your thoughtfulness is unbelievable (really!) and totally unnecessary (really, really!).
There once was a girl named Pearl
Quite unlike any other girl
She mocked and she teased
And she said what she pleased
Enough silly crap, now get back to work!
Love, your little sister, Karen
Ah, so much better than the usual bills and circulars in the mailbox.

haha, now that is seriousely fun!!!:) Makes me wish I had a sister I could send limericks and cupons to too:( (so going to start bothering my friends with limericks now):P haha!
How special! I like that it's through snail mail. There isn't joy any more when I go to the mailbox, just junk stuff. Even bills are done online. So, to find something like what you and your sister do, that's great!
Hi, Braja.
It's the best way, don't you think?
Hi, Dee.
I think you should write a limerick to Jonna. And send her a coupon for denture cream. :-)

Hi, Aleta.
There should be a revolution. Once or twice a month, we should drop unnecessary cards, coupons, autumn leaves and pictures into the mail to our family and friends. Catch them off guard.
:-)

I'm holding out for a haiku for hemmoroid cream! :)
Peace - Rene
Oh, Rene, that's beautiful. 5-7-5, right? For a haiku?
hee hee hee
Karen's getting a haiku for Christmas this year. :-)

What a classic Pearl. What a fun relationship you have. Loved her reply. Now the question is do you send her something back?
