Grunting Makes it Easier

I was hoisting my body out of a chair the other day…

UH!

You know how it is.  You’re terribly tired, your muscles grumbling about how you don’t take them out for months and then you expect some sort of performance -- and now you're all sore and achy, aren't you?

UH!

It's got me thinking.

Today’s topic de jour for today – redundancy being a topic for another time – is grunting.

Not enough is being said about grunting; and frankly, I’m appalled. Look at all grunting has given us.

1. It’s a ridiculously descriptive word, an Archie Bunkeresque word that pretty much declares itself without any help from you.
2. Look at it. Grunt. If you had to come up with a word to describe the act of grunting, it practically throws itself at you.
3. It’s very difficult to misspell the word “grunt”. There’s just no other way to spell it, and I like that in a word.
4. It’s also, at least on the east coast of the U.S., a crumbly-topping-and-fruit cake dealio. Don’t let the name fool you. Trust me. Order the Blueberry Grunt.

I could go on – and probably will! but I’m heading to yoga and after 60 minutes of heated exertion, I’ll bet I’ll think of more to say on the topic of grunting.

And there you have it, a perfectly Monday kind of post.

Minimum effort.

Maximum grunting.

Another three decades, and you will be grunting every time you move. Just ask me.

It is worrying though, the grunt of the bend and stretch that once was so silent and well behaved. Then discovered its benefit for myself - as, clearly, you have too! Enjoy that yoga... YAM xx

Falling into the chair, straining out of the chair, that first step...the next..... there's a grunt for everything.

I LOVE this post. And Blueberry Grunt sounds like you ate it yesterday.

If you think a word like grunt can't be misspelled, you haven't been reading the right blogs.

Aside from that, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

time and place though - a good grunt is essential for getting out of chairs, I agree, but there are occasions when it most certainly gets you a frosty look - trust me

I wish my PT recognized grunting and attempted avoidance. Mine, that is.

Over here too many actions have become a grunt-fest.

Only you could get 300 awesome words out of "grunt."

Haha, I love it! I find that I can't squat down anymore without grunting as I come back up. It comes with age, I guess!

You are several slices less than a loaf, and that is why I never miss a post.

Every year of life after thirty entitles one to add at least ten more grunts per day. Old people grunt a lot. We need to get in our practice grunts while we're still not old.

BigB grunts when he exerts himself sometimes, and I always thought it was kind of unattractive, truth be known, but then one day, as I was bending over to retrieve something I'd dropped, I accidentally grunted. And it helped. So I started grunting, too, and now I'd like to say that we spend our days happily grunting about, getting stuff done, but really, I think, he's a little turned off. He started it, though, and I'm not sorry.

I found that 10mg of Valium before sitting down reduces the grunting when rising.
