Wherein Pearl Gets Adjusted; or I'm Back, I'm Nationwide

After two months of splints, anti-inflammatories, margaritas and a promise made by a man on the bus to come over and “take care” of me, I can once again use my upper extremities.

The answer to chronic tendonitis?

The chiropractor.

A team of bouncy, energetic types working for Lyn LakeChiropractor set to work on my arms with a fervor rarely seen outside of revival tents.  I’ve had electricity course through my hands until my fingers danced of their own accord, I’ve been beatenwith stainless steel devices, I’ve had my arms massaged, manipulated, taped, and yanked by clear-eyed young men with large thumbs and an intense understanding of my musculature.

It’s been a trip.

“I – uh – take back – uh! – all the smarmy things I ever – uh! – said about chiropractors.”

Pop!  My elbows and wrists are realigned.

This confession brought about laughter.  Apparently they hear the grunting admiration of the newly converted fairly often.

This is not to say that I am completely out of the aching-armed woods just yet.  I will, for example, be icing both forearms in just a few minutes.

That would be a good time, by the way, to rummage through my purse.  I’m pretty sure there are scandalous things in the bottom of it.

As it is, however, I’m better.  I’m back.  And I have books of notes taken to remind me of the all the weird things that have happened since the last time I wrote.

I’m psyched.

A big "thank you" and "is this love?" to Ren Potter, Indigo Roth, Shelly Morales, and a host of others who sent me exercises, herbal/homeopathic cures, and words of encouragement.  It' s been hard on me, these last few months, and everyone's been so kind.

Welcome back to the weird world of people with working hands. We missed you even though you kept us fed with Classic Pearlness during your recovery.

Good news indeed!

Wait! I haven't finished reading all of your old stuff yet.

I am hoping they didn't replace the old you with someone else as that would be absolutely terrible unless of course the new you was significantly better by at least 3 orders of magnitude. Hahahaha - I just came up with a nice combo of words: magnitude adjustment - I don't know what it means yet, give me a few days ....

Now the movie Edward Scissorhands comes to mind ....

I'm sorry for what you've been dealing with. We can't lose our Pearl's ability to bring entertainment to the masses. It seems the world of chiropractic knows this. A wise world it is.

Keep healing.

Good for you for getting through this, and deciding to stay on the straight and narrow, at least for the near future.

Wow. Wow. WOW! Such great news. I've never been much of a believer in Chiropractic; this could make me change my mind. Will you be going back? If so, how soon? Keep us posted on your continued progress. Such great news!

Great news for the beginning of a new month! Keep on healing. (My fingers kept wanting to write something about "psyched and psycho," but that doesn't seem quite right.) I keed.

A surprising solution, but SO much better than surgery or (horrors) not being able to type at all. I'm so glad you are doing better. Looking forward to "the new stuff" even though I always enjoy "the old stuff" too (I always see something I missed the first time around).

Give those chiropractors a big old clap on the back from us, eh? :)

I am SO glad you are better Pearl! I worked for a chiropractor many years ago and have seen people carried in, walking out. Welcome back! :-)

Welcome back, my fine, funny friend. If it flares up again, find a place that sells horse supplies and pickup the roll-on DMSO. Stinky stuff, but great anti-inflammatory.

Hugs!

Welcome back! But take care, you don't want a rerun of that kind of pain and inconvenience. I'll have to do more research on that Graston technique, could be helpful for lower back tightness and pain.

Glad to see you back Pearl. Chiropractors are wonderful indeed. Been seeing them for years myself.

I wish i could (seriously i do) get to a chiro but with the implant and wires in my butt running up my spine they'd get unplugged...major surgery to reconnect them so that is out...now the shoulders that may be a thought for the weather induced arthritis. Whoever thought a warm upper Midwestern day could be so damn painful?

So glad that the treatments worked for you, Pearl. Hopefully you will be 100% soon and this chapter will just be a bad memory.

I don't know how you get tendonitis but it sure doesn't sound nice. I'm glad the chiropractor helped. I had thought they were quacks too, but from what a couple of other people have told me, too, I'm starting to change my mind.

Nancy/BLissed-Out Grandma said...

Ha! I made the same confession to a magical chiropractor who helped me with neck and shoulder pain quite a few years ago. She, too, had heard it before. Welcome back!!!
