Also, It Looks Like We Could Both Use a Pedicure, So Maybe We Bring A Gal in Over the Lunch Hour?

So here we are: Monday morning.

And wasn’t it just minutes ago that it was Friday afternoon, redolent with the promise of sleeping-in, of finally folding those towels, of sitting for hours with friends just because you want to and you can?

And now, here we are again: Monday morning, with a full work week ahead of us.

It’s not that I hold you responsible, per se, but I do notice that every time I see Monday, I see you.

What’s the connection?

In fact, the more I reflect on this, the more I’m starting to think that the work week – and you – have something to do with each other…

Anyway, if we’re going to keep doing this? If we’re going to continue to do this Monday-morning thing? We should establish some guidelines.

That okay with you?

First of all, I think we should take turns picking up coffee. You like coffee, right? Me, too; although by the time I’m done adding half-and-half and Splenda to it it’s not so much coffee as it is some sort of caffeinated dessert. I don’t know if you want to go every other week or what, but I figured we should talk about it.

Second and/or “B”, I think Mondays should be pleasant but low-key. We don’t have to talk if you don’t want to, but there should be some sort of acknowledgement of each others’ presence. I appreciate a brisk nod, the casual wave, even a wink. Let me know how you feel about non-verbal communications. We got all week – no point in peaking early.

Next, I get a number of personal phone calls throughout the day. Maybe we could work out some sort of signal as to when I could use some privacy? I’ll balance my coffee cup on my head when I could use a couple minutes. If you need me to leave, you pat your belly twice and belch the alphabet to “G”. I don’t know – I’m just throwing it out there. We can work on that more, later.

Finally, I’ve got a series of global Live Meeting conference calls that need to be set up – one for North America, one for Europe (if you can’t fit it in with the North America meeting), and one for the Asia-Pacific area. So if we’re going to sit here and distract each other, maybe you could take one, I could take the other, and then we’ll go to lunch?

Speaking of lunch, it's not even 8:00 and already I'm thinking Chipotle's.

You let me know.

Hey Pearl! And colleague. I believe that Bertrand Russell said that the only thing that will redeem mankind is cooperation. So please, colleague, this lady needs caffeine, STAT! Oh. You thought she was talking to herself? Hmmm, well, yes, granted, she does that. And she needs a coffee; step lively. Roth x

First off, I'm not into coffee; my thing is orange juice. But I'm okay with picking up your coffee if you're willing to pick up my orange juice! Also, I didn't realize your company was so global! Cool.

Count me in for bringing the coffee, even though I don't drink it. It'll be Mexican coffee, though. And the signal for privacy? Mine would be my clicking left knee. Five clicks would mean give me a few and I'll get right back to you.

Pearl, if I worked with you, I swear I'd LOOK FORWARD TO Mondays :) Coffee on me, and I'd never forget how you take it because that's my recipe too. I feel the absence of actual sugar makes up for the extra cream ... Hope you have a good week!

Why let the rest of the office know with x-S-if signalling? I just know we could communicate by sideways glance!! As for the rest, fine; but mine's an Earl Grey, black, no sugar.

Happy Monday &*> YAM xx

I have very good taste in very good coffee, so happy to oblige. Anyway, I like your attitude to Monday's though, as has been said: "you can't trust that day."

Your coffee "dessert" needs some chocolate added to it.

Put that in your memo/directives.

Look how much you've accomplished and no one is off the elevator, yet. Perhaps you could move to the 10th floor and get some of this done around the water cooler. Do they still have those?

Bring a black coffee and a bagel in each morning this week....I'll bring your favourite next week. We'll have to do something about long weekends though. I like long lunches and coffee breaks...often combining them into one long break from about 9 am to 5pm. How does that work for you?

Wink, wink and pat pat. I am not so good at belching and may only be able to get to B.

If only......if only the world worked according to your plan the world would be a better place and Monday would be a better day.

Ha ha ha! Great Monday post (which I receive on Tuesdays because we're all downunder here). I'm also retired but will happily take my turn at bringing and sharing coffee - anytime.

How 'bout a raised hand and "hey" for a greeting and raised eyebrows with raised index finger for needing privacy? You can decide where to lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays we can lunch at my club. Sure, I'll go every other week for coffee. As for switching off on hosting calls, I'll do more than my share if you agree to take the early ones. I am not a morning person.

I am a coffee enthusiast so I will be more than happy to bring it. But no decaf! Life's too short for decaf :-)

I'm retired so can bring the fresh ground, organic, fair trade coffee in each morning. Maybe a mocha java on Mondays to jump start things? Want whipped cream on that?

Here's your coffee, Pearlie, just the way you like it, & most of a chocolate muffin which I was too full to finish!! Tomorrow, if it's not too much trouble, I'd like 2 three minute eggs, sausage & hash browns (extra crispy) with my coffee. Black, no sugar. Thanks!!

Now see, as usual I'm a day (or more) late arriving here, and I've skipped right over Monday and am almost done with Tuesday already! Maybe I'll catch up with you next Monday! :D If I do, could I have tea instead of coffee please? Have a great week, Pearl!
