Dolly Gee Squeakers (formerly of the Humane Society Squeakers) Dreams a Little Dream

There’s a rabbit that sits on the lawn between our house and the neighbor’s.

This drives Dolly Gee Squeakers (formerly of the Humane Society Squeakers) mad. She sits, for hours, in the window, unblinking, the ice cubes in her gin and tonic slowly melting.

With the heat of the summer finally breaking, the cats are free from the confines of the duplex proper and are now allowed out on to the three-season porch; and while Liza Bean Bitey (of the Minneapolis Biteys) divides her time between following Willie (who looms as a deity in her eyes) and speaking cryptically into her new Blackberry about “coups” and “land grabs”, Dolly Gee has settled her long-haired butt into one of the many windows at the front of the house, anxiously awaiting the return of her rabbit.

As has been noted in previous entries on the cats, Dolly Gee has a lot to say and says it often. Of course, it all pretty much sounds the same, but I appreciate the way she fixes her bright blue and slightly crossed eyes on my face while she does it, her little black lips separating to reveal a number of gaps in her gums…

Apparently Dolly Gee has gingivitis.

A cat with gingivitis.

Live and learn, huh?

Her lack of teeth does not, however, prevent her from chattering with desire for the neighborhood bunnies, and her fuzzy little paws twitch with blood lust.

I’ve promised her that should she ever catch the rabbit that there will be a celebration in her honor, say refreshments and snacks in the backyard, maybe a couple acoustic guitars. Liza Bean rolled her eyes upon hearing this, but Dolly seems genuinely excited at the prospect.

In the meantime, she’s out on the porch, plotting and daydreaming of the moment she is free to give chase.

Even the kitties have dreams.

What's Dolly Gee going to do with that rabbit once she catches it being all toothless and all.

I guess a zerbert would be in order.

One never knows what Dolly will do. She's beautiful, but she's dense.

Wait -- "a zerbert"? Is this a regional thing you're springing on me, Simply Suthern?! :-)

Well it's kinda regional. You do it in the belly region. I know it aint restricted to the south cause I saw it on the Cosby show one time too. Ya just put your mouth on the baby's tummy and blow making sounds similar to your son's without the smell. I know y'all do it up there too but I don't know what you call it.

Dolly sounds wonderful, Pearl and she does just the same thing that my dog does. We live in an area of fields, and there are lots of rabbits who regularly frequent our garden, driving poor Quinn rather crazy. Ahh pets...you've got to love 'em! :)

I do zerberts on the Pup and he rolls on the floor laughing, just the way my children did !! If I had tried that on my little cat, he would have just purred louder.. but you have to know your cat... some might just rip your face off.

Rabbits.. my cat never saw a rabbit. I think I know the sound he would have made though .. eh eh eh eh eh ... that sound.

Simply, ah! Zerbert, huh? I think if anything we call them "baby belly blows" or something. I think The Boy would freak. :-)

Sam, I would love to be in an animal's head -- for just a little while! -- while they are focused on something they cannot reach. I'm quite sure our adorable, cuddly pets are actually thinking quite violent and bloodthirsty thoughts. On second thought, perhaps I prefer to see them as adorable, cuddly pets...

a Broad, I know the sound! The cats sit in the window and make it at the birds in the trees...

I love that Dolly Gee. Catching a rabbit is a very respectable dream for a cat. My cats aren't so normal. For example: Dumb Cat once left me a note...

'I wish I had a thumb.'

I questioned her about wanting just ONE thumb.

NO, she insisted, just one would do.
She's an odd one.

Sadly, without surgical intervention, poor Dumb Cat shall never realize her dream....and where would we get the thumb, anyways?

My oldest cat, Bimbo (of the street walking bimbos) would sit in the window on the middle floor of our townhouse in Manassas and make bird noises. She never in her life actually caught a bird or even lured one close but that did not stop her from trying.

Well life wouldn't be worth living if we all didn't have out dreams, even for kitties. And by the way, we always called 'em raspberries when we blew on the baby's tummy.

Hi Pearl - this is *great*! Thanks so much for stopping by, I'm thrilled it led me back here! :)

My cat used to sit in the window and make clicking noises at the wildlife too. Now we are in a high rise, so there's not a lot of action up here for her anymore. I sometimes wonder if she misses the excitement. - G

One of my cats has the beginnings of gingivitus. I've been instructed to brush her teeth with chicken-flavored toothpaste. Ew.

My wife (american by birth, virginian by the grace of god) called 'em razberries too.

My mom did a similar thing when I was little, circling with her index finger closer and closer to the tickle spot ... closer ... closer ... saying "Bumblebee bumblebee ..."

To this day (I'm 60, she's almost 85) all she has to do is point & I fall apart.

Half rabbit, half cat? Bread for it's magical powers?

I guess we all have our own metaphorical rabbits in the yard, don't we?

I hope you only have four cats, because one rabbit will only yield good luck with four feet!

So sorry I am unable to respond. I can't wait until my laptop comes home!

And GT? My Grandma did the same to me, and as I have a very tender spot for those that I love that are no longer with us, you brought both a smile to my lips and tears to my eyes.

Bumblebee bumblebee
up from the farm
going to get Pearl
under the arm!
