I'll Take Instrumentals for $200, Alex; or I’d Like to Use My E-Mail Shout-Out, Please!

Today is my 591st straight post. There have been two outright re-posts and one post inspired by an existing post, but outside of that, I have written every night for 591 nights.

Why am I telling you this?

Because every day, I wonder what I will write tomorrow, if there could possibly be enough material out there to sustain this.

And then I remember that I know a lot of weirdos.

I received this e-mail today from my Aunt Jude, an attractive and intelligent woman who works mere blocks from me. She’s a funny person, and so you will want to read the following bearing that in mind.

Hey, Pearl!
I'm thinking of an oldie and I'm pretty sure it's totally instrumental [guitar] so I'm going to pick your brain by 'playing' it with doo’s - LOL.

Doo Doo....................Doo doo doo doo doo
doo...............doo..............doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
doo............doo doo doo doo........doo doo .................................

If you can't get it - call me and I'll sing it for you.............................:o)

Hugs and Kisses,
There Was A Guy Humming It In The Skyway Earlier And It’s Driving Me Nuts

You know I had to call her, right?

And sure as hell, she hummed it to me, and it sounded just like she said it would: Doo Doo....................Doo doo doo doo doo
doo...............doo..............doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
doo............doo doo doo doo........doo doo .................................

Shoot! That’s easy! I mean, is it not readily apparent to everyone involved that she's talking about Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny?

You knew that, right?

What’s that you say? Am I kidding?

Ha! Of course I’m kidding! Who could have guessed that? I had to make a call to Willie and “doo doo” it over the phone to him. He got it immediately and I relayed it back to her.

You know, every day, life lobs little jewels at us.

And every day, we are free to fall just a little more in love with how those jewels crop up.

Santo and Johnny… Why I oughta…

HA! Honestly, that e-mail really tickled me.

Hey! What's this song: doo doo doo doo-do-doo?!

Wow, Sleepwalk goes waaay back! I loved that song back in the 50's.

(Is it Dream and Little Dream of me?)

Pearl said...

Ms. Sparrow, I think it was recorded in 1959. Dream a Little Dream of Me is a different song, recorded, I believe, by the Mamas and the Papas...

You inspire me with your gift of perception and your ability to turn anything into a charming story.

Pearl.... I think I love you!

I read you everyday... don't comment (yes I am that chick) and wish I could come up with such funny posts (since mine are filled with murder and mayhem... well not quite...maybe just the last two days). This comment is getting a little long. You manage to be funny & short... that is good.

I thought about it.. dooo do dooo dooo dooo

Pretty sure that is - Elvis - Love Me Tender. Before he started taking a lot of prescription drugs.

It sounds a LOT like the dum-da-dum-dum-dum one I heard the other day.. I think it is by the same artist....

Hey FREAK...now I got that song trapped in my head and the REAL evil thing is I don't even know it so I can't sing it straight through to get rid of it. There is a room in hell for people who blog things like that. You best be writing your 666 post about how you had to kill a chikcen to remove a voodoo curse that I am about to put on you. I understand that a bucket extra crispy works too. I only tell you this cause I like you. You understand that curse thing is just business.

I do it for the people. :-D

do you remember doo-dads, I loved that snack!
and if you ate it while standing on your head it was spap-oop.

congrats on the 591
you are a bloggy force to be reckoned with :)

It doesn't look like Sleepwalk to me. That would look like...

Doooo dah... doo dah dah doo (etc. and so forth).

or maybe Weeee yoo (and so on)

I mean, you have to get the slide guitar effect...

Yeah, I've got friends like that to (though I'd never admit to them being family)..'find me this song' After weeks of fruitless searching it turns out the name that it absolutely, definitely was...wasn't! ... Gotta love em!

Jocelyn said...

Just sittin' here under a big flannel-covered comforter, watching FAMILY GUY and "doo-dooing." Even thought it didn't parse out, I was bound and determined to make it "Strangers in the Night."

And your writing so consistently is why you have near one follower for every day you have written.

Sweet, Pearl.

Gadjo Dilo said...

Ah, is that tune "Sleepwalk"? I wondered what it was called.

poosemommy said...

Okay, tell me what this one is: La la la-la-la, la la la-la-la...
I'll buy you that bucket of chicken for Cal's curse if you get that one!

He he he!!! I love this and would totally call myself if someone emailed me a doo doo da! (or even a doo doo dee)

At work ... a collegue and I break into song whenever someone uses a phrase that is in a song ... we ARE very annoying!

591 straight posts? Thank heavens for weirdos...
Very funny post!

Is it here where I admit that around our house we often "meow" the lyrics to songs?! I recall "meowing" all of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" just the other day.

Oh, and Sweet Pea, I do the same. Had a boss say "Welcome to the jungle" Monday and it was all I could do to keep from screaming "You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby!" ala Guns and Roses...
