I Dunno. He Kinda Looks like an “Eddie” To Me

As stated earlier, Big Willie’s got a thing for naming our goldfish.

He enjoys it so much that he does it several times a week, pondering, aloud, whether the copper-colored goldfish is more a “Melanie” or a “Sadie”.

I’ve pointed out to him a number of times that the Post Office will never find them if he keeps changing their names.

Oddly enough, he does not find me funny.

Recently, however, a tragedy struck our little tank; and the name game has begun again.

But I’m ahead of myself.

Tuesday night Willie cleaned the tank; and in his rootings around he frightened the placostomus, who hurled itself, suicidally, against the far wall of the tank.

Waldo’s dead.

Waldo was a good fish, a cleaning fish, a fish we never caught stealing. He enjoyed algae, goldfish “droppings” and long walks in the rain.

We never once had any trouble from that fish.

And now he’s gone.

Willie, of course, was haunted by the image of Waldo’s flight from what must have surely seemed to be the Hand of God. Well, he was haunted – until he jumped into the car an hour later and bought another placostomus.

Which brings us to the naming.

“What do you think,” he muses. “Does this little guy look more like a “Stalin” or a “Dave” to you?”

I’m not falling for it, though. He doesn’t really want my input.

This time around, I’m just going to wait for the announcement to arrive in the mail, so I can be surprised like everyone else.

I think it's too big a decision to make single handed and there should be a worldwide competition to choose the most suitable and appropriate name for the new creature.First prize- a fish supper

My vote is for "Art". I have no idea why, though.

Eldest teenager got a goldfish for her second birthday from her godfather. She instantly announced that his name was Michael. Strange name for a fish we thought. A couple of days later while watching the news on TV we realised she had called him after the weather-man, whose name is Michael Fish!

Oh I am so sorry to hear about Waldo...how sad! There can always be a Waldo II or Waldie...just saying. Best regards to the rest of the family members in the tank.

Cigarette?

Then you can take him for a drag round the block.

He's a placostamus (or whatever you said) which is a cleaning fish. How about "Mr. Plax the Janitor"? Or Scrubby McScrubberson?

Or Phil.

Oh my, I remember an old lady back in the '60's who actually raised plecostomus. Her entire house was filled with tanks. It was dark and creepy. I can honestly say that those fish were the first things I ever saw that were so helplessly ugly they were cute.

I always thought of them as kind of Ninja Igor poop eaters. Always hiding in the shadows, waiting and watching for poo, then suddenly appears in a flash scaring even more poo out of the normal looking fish and says: "Let me get that for you master".

I think I lean more toward Stalin, would let the other fish have a little heads up, so to speak.

How can the post office find them, lol.

Poor fishy. Poor Willie, though he seems to have gotten over the death with gusto.

Dave's a good name. Stalin might try to rule the tank. You can't have that.

How about Darren?
ala Bewitched.

That's what my sis names her kids hamsters.

Hilarious. I love hearing pet names. Even better if they get updated every week - that's Willie - always keepin' it fresh.

I'm sorry for the loss of Waldo. A moment of silence for him.....

For your new fish, I like the name Tuppins.

Happy Saturday Pearl!

Well my goodness, Waldo has gone to the great fishtank in the sky and now we need a new name? For a new fish, that will likely get a new name weekly?

Might I suggest a lovely name book from Borders? He he he!

brightest blessings!

I still haven't gotten over my 20 gallon salt water tank. It was a beautiful thing for about 2 weeks...1 Rose anenamoe 3 clown fish, etc. Then I read a book and found out that the smaller the tank, the harder it is to maintain. They all got diseased and died...

Poor fuckin' fish...

I'm sure Plecos get stuck with all the work because they're so ugly (In a good way, of course) while their prettier sisters dance at the ball.

Life is unfair and often tragic.
