Careful What You Ask for There, Kiddo

Ladies and gentlemen, another work week has flown by; and while it is in my veins to be flippant, today is a hard one.

We’ll get to that in a moment.

Until then, let us look for faux-insight into what the weekend has in store. Our method? Why, the songs that pop up on my bus ride into work, of course!

The iPod predicts – yikes! Just what does the iPod predict?

Hit It and Quit It by Funkadelic
Pushin’ Too Hard by The Seeds
On Board by Friendly Fires
No Time Soon by Gnarls Barkley
Take Me With You by Morphine
Had a Dad by Jane’s Addiction
The Man Who Sold the World by David Bowie

Let’s not dwell on that too much. Frankly, my branes are bizzy elsewhere and cannot be bothered.

For instance…

In a turn of events neither shocking nor economically unforeseen, my hours have been cut from 40 to 32.

I’ve been sitting here trying to find good things about this, trying to find something good in what is, essentially, quite a pay cut.

And then I realized: this isn’t a pay cut! Silly woman! This is an economic adjustment with enforced leisure and/or domestic chore time.

Yeah. That’s it.

The kitchen floor that may or may not still be sticky (in parts) with Christmas eggnog?

The Liza Bean Bitey (of the Minneapolis Biteys) Yowling, Leaping, and Tap-Dancing Festival we’ve dreamed of?

The collection of blog pieces I’m reworking to sell to an unsuspecting public?

SCORE!

Look at me, Ma! I’ve got three-day weekends comin’ out the ol’ ying!

Can you imagine all that I’ll accomplish?

Have a great weekend, everyone. I’ll be here, if you want to stop by.

Like the old song says:

You've got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between

Enjoy those 3 day weekends Pearl. Thing about how much more yoga you can do, or those fun serving side jobs that you seem to love so much.

I'm hell-bent on looking for the positive right now... thanks for setting a good example :)

Those'll be spent, most likely, at some local retail establishment or watering hole...working!!!

"Wait till I get my money right....

Pearl, I've been meaning to ask, but in a "nice" way . . . is that "bus" you talk about riding all the time a regular bus or is it ahhhh a "short bus"? I'll still love ya either way.

mbuna, nice touch. And you're right: more time for yoga and more time for serving the masses. :-)

Diane, I was actually quite crabby and concerned about it for the first three-four hours, and then I thought, oh, what the hell. You'll be fine. :-)

Rene, if it were even remotely driveable I'd stop in just to hear your accent. :-) I think we would be great in-person friends!

@eloh, ah! You're on to me! :-) Like I said, what the hell. It's not going to kill me. Things have been rough before and yet I live! I have my health, good friends in both the physical and blogalicious world, and a working brain. If I can steer clear of real depression (something I've experienced in the past) then I'll be fine. :-)

Three day weekends are sent from Heaven despite the financial burden. Time's worth more than money.

You could probably watch a shit ton of TV too! I totally vouch for that! Work is so overrated!

Fine tuning your craft? I don't see how you may be able to produce better blogs - but you will probably find a way to do that.

You're a survivor, Pearl. But does this mean you're still doing twice the work with less time to do it?

If so, I say forget the kitchen floor and get some nap time in.

Hope you have a great weekend ---

Hang onto your ass, I'm sending the good karma your way.
I really do admire your positive ways and am beset by envy of your real life friends, that you'll have this added time to grace them with your company.
I'm thinking ass's will be laughed off.

I'll bet the bastards still wan 40 hours' worth of work, though.

Work to the clock, Pearl, then walk away.

More blogging time for the Pearl-meister can only be a good thing.

Have a great weekend!

Yes, Ma'am... the first thing popped into my [um, largest] head was-- "She'll Have MORE TIME To WRITE!! To Pursue What She SHOULD BE DOING!!!"Pearl-- SERIOUSLY...

Imagine, eight more disciplined, finger-numbing, editing, grey-matter-depletin...

Ah! Never mind THIS ol' bird; WRITE!!! WRITE!!!

I'll be standing in line, hoping for an autograph. I SWEAR...

go with the positive- one door closes and another one opens- this could be the beginning of something big.

Enjoy the extra time off for me, my office just went from a 4 on/4 off then 5 on /3 off setup to 5 on/3 off and 6 on/2 off. SUCKS! I'm just jealous. I need a vacation too.

Hi Pearl. Long time. Ws just crazy busy at work.

40 TO 32. I THINK IS A BOON. SOMETIMES WE DON'T REALISE THE POSSIBLITIES THAT CAN OPEN UP WITH MORE TIME. DO VISIT MY BLOG.

I remember when a three day weekend said "time to get things done" or "time to catch up on sleep" or other unfathomable statements like that. For me, it now means, "time to run out of ideas for how to keep small children entertained that don't have anything to do with TV." Well at least the challenge will break up the tedium.

Yikes. Life definitely doles out the mixed blessings, doesn't it?

The bad news: I think the economy may improve soon, so enjoy those three day weekends while you can!
