I Couldn’t Possibly Get Enough Sleep

Ladies and gentlemen, today is Day Two of a second course of antibiotics, treating, respectively, bronchitis closely followed by a sinus infection.

That’s right. I’m still sick.

You should see me. I’m quite an airhead, not to mention that I’m dizzy, nauseous, tired, and dizzy.

And an airhead.

And have I mentioned the dizziness?

Ah, well, I’ve been susceptible to this sort of thing all my life, and antibiotics have always had a distracted, confused, no-appetite effect on me. It would be almost enjoyable if I wasn’t expected to function in polite society.

Ma: “You want to go get some lunch?”
Me: “Sure.”
Ma: “Anything in particular you want to get?”
Me: “We could get some lunch…”

The gift o’ gab has left me, and I am but a dried beetle husk of the woman I was. It is only my devotion to writing, every single day, that keeps me upright. Without the need to write, without the promise I made to myself to continue to write, nay, expound upon my multiple theories on life, love, and what makes those people over there so very interesting, I should fall to the ground, helpless, and await help…

Ack. Who am I kidding?

Go about your business, people! I’m just going to lay over here, maybe stare vacantly for a while, maybe rest my eyes a bit after that... I'm sure I'll be making sense again in no time.

Kate, I've been sick for two weeks. It does not agree with me or my lifestyle of choice!!

Naperville Mom, thank you. I slept 13 hours last night. :-)

Maybe you can get insurance to pay for a nice beach vacation - I hear the salt air does WONDERS for bronchitis!

Well, if i had religion, I'd pray for you. Does that help at all?

No?

OK then, I hope you are feeling better soon, pal.

You might want to force some yogurt down your gullet as the antibiotics run their course. Otherwise...um...other things will run their course. If you catch my meaning.

Yuck!!!

The same thing is happening to me! I woke up coughing my fool head off yesterday, and my doc is off today.

Sucks that you're still sick.

I've finally gotten what the kids have had...and it ain't a party. Let's just say I haven't left the couch yet today.

Two weeks of the blues stinks. Isn't it true that whiskey cures everything? My college roommate gave me a hot toddy (SP?)one day when I had the most horrid of sicknesses. It knocked me out instantly, but I woke up as good as new. (I feel like my answer to everything is drinking, is that bad?)

Feel better soon ;O)

I've heard that alcohol reduces the effect of antibiotics. Lay off the vodka! Truly, though, feel better!

Hi Pearl,

Two weeks of battling the sicky feeling? This has gotta stop.

Have someone pick up a small bottle (0.45 oz.) of Oil of Oregano. It's sold at Vitamin Shoppe or any health food store.

Mrs. U swears by its results.

Get well soon Pearl,

U

Yeah, that last time I was put on a course of antibiotics, I told everyone they were for "bronchitis" too. Gotta stop slummin' at those dive bars Pearl!

It all makes perfect sense to me Pearl! Oh, and drink plenty of fluids!

I was so pleased to be better after my recent sickliness actually did a little jig.

Soon be better Pearl, unless of course it's the start of a horrendous slide into some debilitating, chronic disease.

Get well soon!

You've just described my last year, since the surgery.

Now I feel like even more of a wimp for just doing reposts last week when I felt mildly grotty... Get well soon!

God! you still make so much sense! I would be feebly fingering the keyboard and then falling to the ground and snoring it off by now!!

Hey! You've been sick quite a while now. Hope this bad phase blows off soon!

Oh Pearl...I feel for you!
I had the same damn thing...had it for 3 (count them: THREE!) weeks solid, then got rid of it.
Or. So. I. thought.
But, lo and behold it struck again (after a 3 week hiatus) for another 7 days.
That's what I get for being smug about being over the dang flu....

Put your woolie socks on, climb in and pile on the comforters, drink hot tea, and wait it out.
I promise you that you will live through it...even though you don't think so now!!1

'In my experience, sex both cures and causes just about everything...'

Do those pearls of medical wisdom ring any bells ?? Time to put your crackpot theories to work and heal thyself, Physician.
Feel up for a bit of runmpy-pumpy just now...

Why didn't you warn me that you were contagious? Or maybe it's just that the trees are blossoming -- so pretty, and yet they make me so miserable.

Are you up for some synchronized whining?

I'm so sorry your going on two weeks of this. Yuck! But at least you can blame the antibiotics for being an airhead, I wish I had that excuse ;D

I totally hear you. When I am on decongestants, I act really strangely. It makes me want to sit and just stare at stuff. I know it's strange behavior, but at the same time I really like it.

My son came home from school sick today, but I've decided that I'm not going to participate. I find if I can pile on enough attitude, a lot of the time I can shake off the germs. That's just how I roll.

Blicky Kitty said...

Oh no that sucks! I hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like you need a hug.
I know we've only just met but here's one for you ...

Rest... you sound delirious.

best wishes Ribbon

Under the Influence, now who was telling me that Germans get spa holidays as part of their work benefits? Some healthy German, I’m sure…

IB, I will take your well-wishes gladly. Now go forth, my son, and bring me a cherry pie!

iNDefatigable, I DO know what you mean, actually. Good advice!

Joanie, I hope you are feeling better today. My recommendation is as much sleep as you can get. And if your head and chest both fill up, Mucinex D is very expensive but really worth it…

Mary, I’m sorry to hear that. See above for my recommendation that you sleep as much as you can get away with!

Ria, oh sure! Now she tells me!! Actually, sometimes alcohol IS the answer – it just depends on the question!

Susan, you’re right; and right now I’m saving my alcohol for the minute I’m off the pills. I see several large, salty margaritas on my horizon…

U, that sounds really interesting. We have a store similar to that downtown here. I’m going to pick up a bottle.

Jay, ahh, the only one on to me! Who knew you could still get some of these diseases?! It all feels very Dickensian…

Greenfingers, sleeping and drinking water – two challenges for me, for sure.

The Jules, that actually made me laugh. I feel so much better today that it’s like night and day. IF, however, there is a slow slide into decrepit-ness, I shall surely post about it.

Suzy, really? I’ve not been reading you long enough… I have a lot of sympathy for long-term debilitation. I hope you had good friends bringing you good things to eat and interesting things to read.

Douglas, yes, but I’m the one that makes it!

That Baldy Fella, no need for self-flagellation. You stopping by and using the word “grotty” is just what I need!

Roshni, I went to yoga last night, trembling and oddly off-balance – and today I feel, as my father would say, like a hundred bucks. A WORLD of difference between yesterday and today, I tell you!

Retired One, thank you for your kind words! I feel so much better today. I am not going to soon forget how it was to be that sick, though, and I’m going to continue to get more sleep than I normally do. Studies show that Americans don’t get enough sleep, and I believe it. Not one person I know gets more than six hours a night, and I don’t think that’s enough.

Lizspin, you should see me when I’ve been drinking. I’m dreadfully coherent!

Kevin, I’ve been to your site a number of times and am both pleased and appalled. ;-) I think you’re very funny, btw…

Fingers, I feel oddly inspired. Hmmm. Wonder what I should have for lunch then…

Jeanne, synchronized whining! I like that. It’s got a lovely Olympic-style ring to it!

Michelle, I am better just today. The clouds have parted!

Darsden, funny girl! “next year get the shot or something”!! I feel better now! Really!

Retired One, I’ll be right there! Thank you.

Yeah, I’m Still Here, hello! Glad to see you! Some of my best friends are natural airheads!

Sweet Cheeks, I’ve often wondered if you and fingers were in cahoots. The truth will out!

Adrian, I hear you. That’s my normal line of defense: complete denial. It’s like being outside in the winter. Cold? Nah. This one got me, though. And yeah, decongestants really make me spacey; and I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one!

Blick Kitty, thank you!

Ribbon, I’ll take every hug offered.

Lisa, yes, way too long. It's unnatural, I tell you!
Honestly, today is so much better. I even dressed better than I have in weeks. I'm sure my co-workers are happy about that!
