Feeling Cog-ish

Despite the three-day weekend this past week, despite the incredible weather, despite good health and good fortune, I’m feeling cog-ish today.

I feel like this several times a year, no doubt my mind’s inability to rationalize the silliness of a 40-hour work week or the pathetic role I play in ensuring that that silliness is extended to future generations.

My intention to win the lottery is still in place – don’t get me wrong! – and I have various spreadsheets and diagrams – I’ll show them to you later – on how I will spend the money; but in the meantime, I suppose I’ll hang on to my job.

What? What do I do?

I’m glad you asked. Well, first off, let me just say that I’m terribly important, that when I speak, people listen, and that I’m often woken in the middle of the night to make decisions that impact…

Oh, who am I kidding. I do what I do, whatever I do, because I am paid to do it. I don’t heal people, I won’t change the balance between the haves and the have-nots, I don’t influence foreign policy.

I is a cog.

Here I am, world! Fully cubicled and in a lubricated corporate non-groove.

But what’s a cog to do?

Crazy things. Un-cogged things. Things like the upcoming Zombie Pub Crawl.

What do we want?
Braaaaains!
When do we want it?
Braaaaains!

Have you heard of this?

Now, last year – or was it the year before? – the Zombie Pub Crawl and the Pirate Pub Crawl coincided, resulting in a dance-off in the Spring Street Bar and Grill parking lot. Eyewitness accounts vary, but I heard that the Pirates won. Well of course they won! Not only did the Zombie Pub Crawl start several hours earlier than the Pirate’s – which means they had just that much more to drink – but duh! Zombies are dead! How well do you think the Undead dance, anyway?

Exactly.

Anyway, we do what we can to stay sane, I guess; and if that means dressing like the Walking Undead and wandering through the streets with others of similar mind, then so be it.

Feeling slightly less coggish,

Your Pearl

Better to be a cog than a spanner in the works !
